A man has died following a shooting involving federal agents in south Minneapolis on Saturday morning, according to reports from FOX 9.

The incident occurred near 28th Street West and Nicollet Avenue South, where FOX News reports a U.S. Border Patrol agent shot a person who was armed. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man or further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

According to FOX 9, this is the third shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis since Renée Good was fatally shot on Jan. 7, an incident that sparked widespread protests and criticism of federal enforcement operations in the city.

Protests and Crowd Control Measures

Protesters gathered at the scene shortly after the shooting. FOX 9 reported that chemical irritants were deployed by law enforcement to disperse the crowd as tensions escalated.

At 10:58 a.m., FOX 9 confirmed that a chemical irritant was used where protesters were assembled.

Victim Confirmed Dead

At 10:52 a.m., FOX 9 sources confirmed the man who was shot had died, reporting that he was shot in the chest.

Prosecutor Responds

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty released a statement acknowledging the incident and outlining coordination with state authorities:

“We are aware of reports of a federal agent having shot an individual in Minneapolis this morning. We are working with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to coordinate a state response.

The scene must be secured by local law enforcement for the collection and preservation of evidence. We expect the federal government to allow the BCA to process the scene.”

City to Hold Media Briefing

The City of Minneapolis announced a media briefing scheduled for 11:30 a.m., according to a press release cited by FOX 9. The briefing will include Mayor Jacob Frey, Police Chief Brian O’Hara, and Emergency Management Director Rachel Sayre.

The city stated that the briefing would address the shooting of an adult male involving ICE agents. Mayor Frey again called for federal immigration authorities to leave the city and state, reaffirming support for immigrant and refugee communities.

City officials urged the public to remain calm and follow official city channels for updates.

Vigil and Rally Planned

A vigil and rally are planned for 1 p.m. at East 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue South, the location of Saturday’s shooting, according to FOX 9.
